Uganda AIDS Orphans School

Note: Above items were shipped to US soldiers stationed in Iraq and distributed by them to the school children.
India - Vadavaru-Mariamman Koil Service Society (2004 - 2006)
Accomplished:
- Periodical medical camps were conducted, including two eye camps for the villages near Vadavaru Bridge and for two remote villages about 20 kms away.
- Free value-based coaching was offered for the most backward students (202 students) hailing from three villages near Vadavaru daily for one year. They were also trained in spoken English to improve their employment prospects. Several of the students began self-employment following the coaching.
- Free annual week-long personality development camps were offered for village boys and girls in the age group of 9 - 17 years. After two years of training, the village boys and girls showed a remarkable improvement. They are more disciplined, more eco-friendly, and are endowed with a better sense of cleanliness and hygiene. - Free food was offered once in ten days for more than 50 children in a large hall over a period of one year.
- Nutritious food items were given every day for all village children, including protein-rich cookies for a select few who were considered significantly under-nourished.
- Young women were trained in self-employment schemes such as incense stick making, sewing, basket weaving, and nurse training. Experts from neighboring cities were invited to teach the enthusiastic women from nearby villages.
- New and slightly used clothes were distributed in good condition periodically to 218 infants, boys, and girls.
- Uniforms were provided for 49 of the poorest boys and girls.
- Free music lessons were offered to 20 village children.

Tsunami Relief (Asia)
Accomplished:
- Immediate relief was provided to those devastated by the December 2004 tsunami.
- New and slightly used clothing were distributed in good condition for nearly 300 children.
- 30 family size mosquito nets were distributed.
- Toys for 300 infants and children were distributed.
- Blankets and pillows for 30 families were distributed.
- School in a Backpack Kit were distributed for 10 children .
- Lil' MDGs Sports Kit were distributed for 10 children.
- A Website was developed with assistance from several other students to teach children 14 and under about tsunamis, how to watch for warning signs, and how to protect themselves if they are ever in an earthquake prone area. View Website.
- $900 in cash was raised, which was sent to buy immediate necessities for 30 affected families.
- Received recognition as one of the top 5 youth led e-content project at the UN World Summit on Information Society in Tunisia (November 2005)

Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture
Accomplished:
- Funds were raised towards complete construction of dormitory for students and teachers.

Coral Crisis
Accomplished:
- Awareness was raised of the situation of the coral reef crisis among elementary school children via classroom presentations.
- Teamed up with children from Germany, India, and USA and built a Website to spread awareness of this crisis. View website .
- Funds were raised to adopt, protect, and monitor one of the richest coral reefs in the world (Komodo National Park, Indonesia) where sea grass meadows, mangrove forests, sea turtles, whales, and dugongs are found.

- Distribute computers to a computer center for educating poor boys and girls
- Stock a library with books for children aged 2 - 17
